For those wondering where I’ve been…

While not stalking tumblr, I’ve been:

a) Stuck in the TCG World with my Jmusic TCG and other such things because collecting cute graphics.

b) Spamming Twitter (feel free to follow if you know me xD — although it’s mostly just me yelling into the air. I usually follow back if I recognize you :p. )

Basic Manga Coloring Tutorial!

oshiokiyo:

Disclaimer: This will be a very very basic tutorial! Nothin fancy here!

Tools used: Adobe Photoshop CS5, Tablet, Brush Tool, Eraser Tool

First step: choose which image you want to use! I chose this one here:

image

Second step: unlock the background layer -> add a new layer and move it under the background -> set the background to multiply

image

Third step: on the blank layer under your background layer (the manga panel you will be coloring) use the brush tool, pen tool, or select tool (whichever you want! I used the brush tool!) to fill in your base colors!

image

Forth step:  When I see something that’s colored all black (the egg yolk and heart) I usually just add a layer above your background (manga panel) layer, and set the layer to lighten. Then I add colors that way :)

image

Fifth Step: above your base colors, add some shading! This gives the image more life. I’m no pro at lighting, so I usually just shade where ever I think looks good OTL

image

Then you should be finished! You can view the final result here

I hope this mini tutorial on the basics of manga coloring help you guys get started! It’s really easy and simple to do!

8 Words You Should Avoid When Writing

As always, Orwell’s final rule applies: “Break any of these rules before saying anything barbarous.” There are instances where each of these words fills a valuable role. However, especially among inexperienced writers, these words are frequently molested and almost always gum up the works.

1. “Suddenly”
“Sudden” means quickly and without warning, but using the word “suddenly” both slows down the action and warns your reader. Do you know what’s more effective for creating the sense of the sudden? Just saying what happens.

I pay attention to every motion, every movement, my eyes locked on them.Suddenly, The gun goes off.

When using “suddenly,” you communicate through the narrator that the action seemed sudden. By jumping directly into the action, you allow the reader to experience that suddenness first hand. “Suddenly” also suffers from being nondescript, failing to communicate the nature of the action itself; providing no sensory experience or concrete fact to hold on to. Just … suddenly.
Feel free to employ “suddenly” in situations where the suddenness is not apparent in the action itself. For example, in “Suddenly, I don’t hate you anymore,” the “suddenly” substantially changes the way we think about the shift in emotional calibration.
2. “Then”
